The video conferencing platform has become popular in a very short period around the world as millions of users are flocking to Zoom for meetings amid the Covid-19 lockdown. Now, The platform is receiving strong critisism for its poor security protocols.
Zoombombing wherein hackers enter into your virtual conference and spam them with obscene and offensive content has become a fun part. Even as Zoom is making efforts to prevent hacking on its platform, here are some tips to keep your conference meeting safer.
Waiting room:
Expert suggests users should set up a system where guests have a waiting room. In other words, don’t allow participants until you allow guests to join conference.
Zoom in a post says that hosts have the option to personalise the title, logo, and message that will appear in the “Waiting Room.” This allows guests to make sure that they’re in the correct room. Hosts can also send messages to the participants who can be on any of the platforms, desktop or mobile.
Screensharing:
Hosts need to get a better hold of the screen-sharing feature which has helped in increasing of hacking. Did you know hosts and co-host can mute participants at any moment? You can also lock conferencing to prevent anyone else from joining the meeting.
Randomise meetings
According to Ducklin, Zoom users need to set random meeting IDs and passwords. This will reduce the possibilities of zoombombing in your meetings.
One can send the web link through an email or invitation request, and the password by another means, e.g. in an instant message just before the meeting starts. You can also lock meetings once you’ve started concentrating on the meeting itself.
