Tata Harrier, the compact SUV of Tata Motors, is to be launched with a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine.At the same time, the special thing will be that its price will also be very attractive, so that the mid-size SUV can give a tough competition to the segment.
Tata recently launched the 2020 version of the Harrier. In which the company made a lot of changes compared to the old version. Tata launched the Harrier with the BS6, giving power of 170 PS. The new version is 30 bhp more powerful than the old version. At the same time, the new model features automatic gearbox and panoramic sunroof. Also, the car has been launched in new colors. At the same time, all these features can also be seen in the 1.5 liter petrol engine.
Tata’s effort is to make it a multipurpose petrol engines. Apart from Tata Harrier, the company can also offer it in Tata Gravitas. The Tata Gravitas is actually a 7-seater version of the Tata Harrier. The wheelbase of the Gravitas has been increased, due to which the third row seats were replaced. While Tata is also working on hybrids, Tata cars may be equipped with hybrid features in the coming few months.
The Harrier petrol will compete directly with MG Hector. MG Hector’s 1.5 liter petrol engine gives 143 bhp power and 250 Nm of torque. While the 1.4 liter petrol engine of the Jeep Compass gives power of 163 bhp. The 1.5 liter petrol engine coming in the Creta and Celtos gives 113 Bhp of power and 144 Nm of torque. At the same time, Mahindra is also preparing for the facelift lane of its flagship Monocoque SUV XUV500. Its 2.0-liter petrol engine will give 190 Bhp of power and 380 Nm of torque.
As the competition in the market, Tata Harrier can be launched at around 12 Lakhs. The recently launched Hyundai Creta has an initial ex-showroom price of Rs 10 lakh. It is believed that the base petrol model of Tata Harrier can be priced between 13 to 14 lakhs. At the same time, its petrol version can be launched later this year or early next year.
If you look at the mid-size SUV sales figures, the number of petrol SUVs in these ranges from 40 to 50 percent. While the average sales of Tata Harrier is from 1200 to 1300 units every month, the company expects that it will bounce with the introduction of petrol engines.
