GST Council has increase the taxation rate on mobile phones in India from 12 to 18 percent last month. The increased GST slab on mobile phones has come into effect from today, which means the asking price of phones will hike as well. MD of Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain wrote on Twitter to announce that price of the company’s phones in India has been increased with immediate effect. It must be noted that the price increment is applicable across the complete portfolio of Mi, Redmi, and Poco-branded phones offered by the Xiaomi India.
Jain’s said, that Xiaomi has been following a rule of not making a profit of more than 5 percent from its hardware products, but now surge in GST rate left the company with no other options but to hike the price of its phones in India.
We checked on Flipkart.in and the increased price structure has been updated on Flipkart. The Poco X2, 6GB + 128GB variant was being sold at Rs. 16,999, is available at Rs. 17,999. The Poco X2’s 6GB + 64GB variant’s cost is now Rs. 16,999, while the 8GB + 256GB variant’s is Rs. 20,999 in India. The price of Redmi K20’s 6GB + 64GB version has been increased by Rs. 2,000 on Flipkart, while the Redmi K20 Pro’s price costs same margin as its 6GB + 128GB variant.
We also tried to figure out the price listing on amazon but couldn’t, since they are listed as “currently unavailable”. We’ll soon get more clarity as the new pricing structure will go live on the official Xiaomi India’s website.
