Doctor Kafeel khan, a well known pediatrician and suspended lecturer at the Department of Paediatrics, Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Gorakhpur, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Jail to offer his medical services in the wake of Corona Virus outbreak.
Uttar Pradesh’s well-known doctor Kafeel Khan, who is still under detention in Mathura Jail after being arrested during anti-CAA protest last month, has written the letter requesting prime minister to release him so that he can serve India by joining the fight against COVID-19. Dr Khan has been charged under the National Security Act.
Dr. Kafeel wrote in the letter – “Sir, with my 20 years of experience in the medical field and more so by those 103 free medical camps I had conducted since out of jail after BRD [Baba Raghav Das] oxygen tragedy, I feel I could be of some help in curtailing this disease.” The letter was posted from his official Twitter handle.

It further stated – “I humbly request you to defer/order to release to serve from my illegal, arbitrary, malafide, unjustified detention till my beloved country comes out winning against this deadly virus.”
Dr Khan suggested PMO to increase testing capacity in order to prevent the community spread of coronavirus. In the letter being tweeted, he mentioned – “I propose that we should increase rapid testing strength (one in each district level), open up of new intensive care units and isolation wards. I suggest extensive training of doctors/paramedics/support group including AYUSH and private sectors.”
Who Is Doctor Kafeel Khan
Dr. Kafeel Khan is a famous pediatrician and suspended professor at the Department of Pediatrics, Baba Raghav Das Medical College, Gorakhpur. He came into limelight when he was suspended suspended in August 2017 during the outbreak of Encephalitis which led to the death of about 30 children due to disruption in oxygen supply in the BRD Medical college in Gorakhpur.
He was later cleared of all charges in a departmental inquiry. Last month Dr. Khan was arrested from Mumbai for giving an inflammatory speech at Aligarh Muslim University during Anti CAA protest.
